Alive at the Market 2017 – Face it Foundation

Saturday, July 15th we return to the Minneapolis Farmers Market Annex for the 7th annual “Alive at the Market” event. We are very excited to bring in John Cafferty and Michael “Tunes” Antune to perform. John performed on the soundtracks for the Eddie and the Cruisers movies. “Tunes” was part of the famous Beaver Brown Band and also acted in the movie.

Keeping with the original theme of Alive at the Market, great food and complimentary beverages (two alcohol drinks per adult) are included.

Launched to honor the memory of Eric Page Jacobson, Alive at the market is a celebration of Eric’s life and legacy.  Tragically, Eric died by suicide July 15, 2010 after battling depression for many years. Eric lived in Las Vegas, NV, and Los Angeles, CA, and had many successes in acting and comedy. Back home in Minneapolis he enjoyed success in the late 90s as a feature act and headline comedian. Eric was also a talented cartoonist and graphic designer. He enjoyed working at Saxton-Ferris International in Minnetonka, MN, as an in-house graphic designer, and also as a Web designer at Internet Broadcasting in St. Paul, MN.  Eric had many loving friends and family members, who speak fondly of their memories of Eric and who still grieve their loss of Eric.

Alive at the Market brings together two things Eric loved: live music and stand-up comedy.  Alive at the Market has been a labor of love for the family and through their hard work and passion, Alive at the Market has been growing for 5 years!  Since its inception in 2011, Alive at the Market has raised over $100,000.00 to support the work of the Face It Foundation.  Face It provides peer support, groups, retreats, monthly activities, education, and hope for men who struggle with depression.  All services offered by Face It are provided free of charge and the proceeds from Alive at the Market are an integral part of allowing Face It to do their work.   Eric’s family wishes to extend their sincerest thank you for your continued love and support!

John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band is the name of an American roots rock’n’roll band from Rhode Island which began its career in 1972 and achieved mainstream success in the 1980s. Originally known as simply Beaver Brown, the classic lineup of the group (consisting of John Cafferty on vocals and guitar, Gary Gramolini on lead guitar, Pat Lupo on bass, Kenny Jo Silva on drums, Bobby Cotoia on keyboards, and Michael “Tunes” Antunes on saxophone) started out as a New England bar band based out of Narragansett, Rhode Island and established a huge following up and down the Northeast

They finally achieved international success when they were offered the score to a movie soundtrack  based on a best-selling novel about a fictional legendary bar band, “Eddie & The Cruisers.”

Thanks to frequent airings of the film on HBO and the purchase of the soundtrack album by their established fanbase as well as hundreds of thousands of new converts, “Eddie & The Cruisers – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and produced a number 7 hit single (“On the Dark Side”) on the Billboard Hot 100. “On the Dark Side” also held number-one on the Billboard Rock Tracks chart for five weeks. The album was eventually certified triple Platinum by the RIAA.

Michael Antune….Best known as “Tunes” in and around music circles is part of John Cafferty’s Beaver Brown Band.  Tunes is widely considered to be one of the worlds best saxophone players.

Besides hit recordings and numerous awards, Michael is also an actor. Michael played the part of Wendell Newton in the “Eddie and the Cruisers” movies.

His soulful Sax sound will certainly take you right back to those Tender Years of the 80’s.
